A few updates on the New York City portion of The 2nd Annual Westies Unite Meet & Greet, Saturday July 12, 2008:

The Schooner we have chartered for the sail around New York Harbor is called THE SHEARWATER (photo below) and the fee is $60 per person, Westies sail free and we will be bringing cocktails; you may bring something as well or risk walking the plank. Payment must be made in advance, by check or credit card, through the Westies Unite organizer, Cindy H. Please email her right away for details at iggyreilly@aol.com to reserve your spot.

There is a full day of great events on Saturday and local Westie's can join in the fun at anytime, including:

10:00 - 11:30am Meet, Greet & Play at the FISHBRIDGE DOG RUN (corner of Pearl and Dover Streets, under the Brooklyn Bridge in lower Manhattan). Introduce your Westie to a whole new crew of fluffy, white conspirators, meet our visiting friends and relax under the shade trees at this charming, breezy dog run. Fresh running water is available and parking is around the corner. For directions, email me.

11:30 - 2:30pm Lunch on historic Front Street: With close to two dozen outdoor bistros, cafes and restaurants to choose from, we will all enjoy a bite to eat and/or cocktails with our dogs in the traffic free, cobblestone lanes of Peck Slip, Front and Beekman Streets. This is around the block from the dog run and I am working on getting discount vouchers from a selection of the restaurants. There are some great little boutiques and galleries in this non-tourist area next to the Seaport to browse through as well.

3:00 - 5:00pm: Sail around NYC Harbor This is a private charter for WU, WOW and our guests sailing on the SHEARWATER (photo below). We have a limo that will drive us after lunch from Peck Slip to the North Cove Marina at The World Financial Center where we will board the schooner. You can walk over if you prefer: it's about a 15 minute stretch from Fulton and Water Streets through Battery Park then along the Esplanade to the Marina. http://i52.photobucke...

6:15pm: If you are heading uptown after the sail you can join in the fun for an end of the day treat at The MILK SHAKE LOUNGE (near Grand Central and the UN). The limo will transport the group so no need to worry about taxis. After this, our out of town guests will head to Grand Central to catch the train to Ossining. There is another day of terrific events on Sunday 7/13 in Ossining, NY to benefit Westie Rescue. For more info on Sunday, visit the WU group page on Dogster.com Dogster Groups - Westies Unite

What a great, fun way to enjoy a Summer Saturday with your dog and make friends with a whole new group of Westie owners! If you plan on taking the sail, please make your payment as soon as possible as seating on this luxury charter is limited, especially if you want to bring a friend/date. Again, the cost is $60 per person and the fabulous Westies sail free!

There are 4 more seats open for the sailing part of the Saturday events. Please email me if you want to reserve a spot.

I'm setting the limit to 25 people. I'm willing to stretch the number to 27, if need be.
But 25 would be ideal.

Cynthia, we are having a cash bar on the schooner. So please everyone, do not bring drinks. They will not allow some alcohol on board. For example, no red wine.

But we are hoping the captain will allow us to bring some margaritas onboard. But we will not know until we arrive to board and speak with the captain.[/

I fully expect us to charm the captain so we can at least bring those on board. How can they resist us? Especially when we will be bringing those fun party favors on board. The two just go together. LOL

Shhhhh, it'a secret. FOFLMBO
