Anchor's Hold beach House
Carova Beach, North Carolina
4WD access only beach on the Outer Banks
An off-season week in a dog-friendly beach house

This place is beautiful!
I rented it for an off-season week for $1,500.
Yipeee!

This vacation was the best dog-friendly vacation ever! I know, I know. I say that after all of my dog-friendly vacations, but this time I really, really mean it. My sister and her husband and their dogs, who shared the house with me and my Westy Girls, totally agree.

Carova Beach really is this beautiful.

Mustangs on the beach. (The baby is in the middle.)

Dogs on the beach. (Our dogs met lots of other friendly, playful dogs.)

Mustangs "horsing around" in the yard.

Unfortunately, the beach house was haunted!
And as the clock struck 12 midnight . . . lightening would flash . . . and

. . . an apparition--a gigantic beast of a horse dog--would appear on the chaise on the upper porch. Regional lore has it that . . .

Just kidding. The beach house, Anchor's Hold, is fantastic-- the gentle giant being none other than Bowser, one of my sister's dogs.

The Great Room.

The Westy Girls and I absolutely love Carova Beach, the 4WD access only beach, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The off season is definitely our time of year. Until next year then.

Looks fabulous, Monica. I always wanted to do a Westie meet and greet and rent one of the homes on the beach with all the dogs in one place. What fun that would be.

Wow, I am totally loving this idea. What time is the off season? How many does the house sleep? How many houses are in the area that are available? My mind is totally working on this one.

Can you say NEXT YEAR????????

I'll be there, Robin! Hmmm . . . may have to rent an SUV to get there though. I don't think my low to the ground Mini will cut it. LOL

Can you say NEXT YEAR????????

The off season is any time not in June, July or August and not Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends. The house sleeps 15 people. There are 3 master bedrooms and 2 smaller bedrooms and a bedroom on the first floor (where the pool table is).

This place cost $1500 for the week (plus taxes) which made it $1675. Divided by 2 people, it is $838 a person or $120 a night. Divided by 3 people and it would be only $80 a night.

The only thing is, only 4 dogs are allowed to stay in the house per the owners rules. There are many houses close by--also for rent though.

The house I rented does have an enclosed dog run underneath it in case the renters need to go out and leave the dogs home. We never used it, because we never all left the house at once. My sister's husband stayed home with their dogs and I took the Girls on the one occasion when my sister and I went into town.

Here are the views from the upper porch. The great room (living room, dining room, sunroom, kitchen combo) of the house is on the 3rd floor (best views), so this is the view from the porch off the living area.

How far in advance did you book? I really love this idea. My daughter, husband and grandson have 2 dogs (a yorkiepoo and a shephard mix) and live 7 hours away in Charlotte, NC and I think I might be able to get them to come too. God willing Chloe is still with us next year (she will be 16) I would try to bring her too (she would just sleep, eat and snuggle us, but I think she would love it)

I like the idea of May 2009. Are the other houses dog friendly like this one? Where would we get more info?

I found out about this place in March in an e-mail that was sent to me.

I have met the owner and her husband (with her 2 rescue Border Collies) last summer at Glen Highland Farm Canine Country Camp, a fantastic sleepover camp that the Girls and I attended last July.

If you rent this house, the owners will donate 10% of the rental price ($150) to Glen Highland Farm Sweet Border Collie Rescue.

Monica,

Is that Casey Jane, Missy Paulette and you in the lodging photos at the Glen Highland Farm Canine Country Camp? Love it!
